About Us

Our Story begins back in 1999. As two young women, fresh out of graduate school, we embarked on our careers in the mental health field. We met at P.S. 188 on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. With the support of our host agency, Partnership with Children, we worked to support the children and families, teachers and school administrators of Public School 188. We dedicated ourselves to combatting the effects and influences of drugs, violence, poverty, and marginalization on children’s ability to learn.

Over the next few years, our individual work with children and families, and our group projects in classrooms throughout the school, helped to foster and strengthen a foundation of emotional safety and well-being from which children and parents could learn and thrive.

Nearly 20 years later, as professional colleagues, spiritual sisters, and now as the founders of Lotus Psychotherapy, we remain aligned in the roots of our professional orientation, our hopes for our patients, and our core belief that resiliency is inherent to the human experience.

Nina Chaifetz, LCSW-R is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University in 1995. She is also a Certified Holistic Health Counselor, a Certified Gestalt Therapist and a SoulCollage® Facilitator. Over the last 20 years, she has worked in a variety of settings with both children and adults. Currently, she maintains a private practice in NYC and in White Plains, NY where she works with adults individually and in couples. She has an integrative approach and incorporates mindfulness, nutrition and lifestyle considerations to create healthier emotional and physical well-being. She loves to travel, enjoys nature, and spending quality time with her friends and family.



Robin Friedman, LCSW-R is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her graduate degree from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1996. Over the past 20 years, she has worked with people of all ages, from children and adolescents to adults and older persons, individually and in groups. Additionally, Robin is a Certified Gestalt Therapist and a Certified EMDR practitioner. As an EMDR practitioner, Robin specializes in helping survivors work through traumatic events. Robin incorporates mindfulness skills teaching as part of her work with individuals and groups, and continues to infuse her own life with mindfulness techniques. Robin loves to spend time with her family and her dog, as well as hike and garden, and give of her time volunteering in her community.



Our Growing Team

Nicole Wagner, LCSW, CPD (DONA) has spent nearly 20 years working with children and families as a Social Worker and a Certified Postpartum Doula. Nicole received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1998 and spent years as a school-based Social Worker in New York City. Nicole has created curriculum and led programs to support the social and emotional growth of children and their families. Currently, in addition to her Doula work, Nicole has joined Lotus Psychotherapy specializing in maternal mental health including anxiety and depression, trauma, parenting issues, feelings of being stressed, loss/grief and life transitions. Recently, Nicole was trained in treating Complex PTSD. She finds it extremely gratifying to be able to guide and nurture women as she knows that her support can ease hearts and minds. Born and raised in the Midwest, Nicole lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband and two daughters.

Brittany Gentilcore - MHS - Candidate. Brittany graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Concordia College in 2019. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Pace University, and her projected graduation date is in December of 2021. Over the last few years, Brittany has completed an internship that centered around helping young children express their thoughts verbally and through art as part of her undergraduate coursework. Brittany is passionate about gaining experience in the field and is excited to incorporate her coursework and experience into practice. She is looking forward to the opportunity to empower women through her work and make a difference in any way possible. Brittany loves to read, sing, and spend quality time with her dog, family, and friends.

Tessa Viserto- MHC - Candidate. Tessa graduated with her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Pace University in 2020. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Pace University, and her projected graduation date is this upcoming spring. Tessa had been working as an ultrasound technician but that wasn't making her heart sing, so she went back and finished undergrad/graduate degree where she found something that she was truly passionate about.Tessa is ready to work in her chosen field and gain experience incorporating her studies with practical skills out in the world we all share. She is looking forward to helping as many individuals as possible achieve their goals. Tessa loves to read, find new restaurants, and spend time with her cats, dog, family, and friends.
