Filing your own Claims as a Client
While we strive to work with as many insurance plans as possible through our billing platform, Nirvana, filing claims manually may be the best method for your insurance. Contained here are some tips to help you complete and submit your own claims.
Step One - Gather Essential Information and Tools
● Your insurance card
● A superbill* from Lotus Psychotherapy
● Proof of payment
*A superbill is a document your provider can pull directly from their electronic health record (EHR). It lists your dates of service and contains a set of codes that your insurer will use for billing. We can provide you with a superbill on a weekly or monthly basis.
Step Two - Determine How You Will Submit Claims
Insurers may prefer to receive their claims in various formats. Some have online portals, while others require paper forms. Each insurer is different, so please refer to their sites for more information. Some relevant insurance portals and links can be found below:
Step Three - Create and Submit Your Claim
This step varies by insurer and typically involves copying information from your insurance card and superbill and pasting it into an online or paper form.
Step Four - Monitor Your Claim
Once you’ve submitted your claim, follow up and make sure that it is processed correctly. Typically, insurers will not provide updates unless requested. We recommend that you follow up (either through the insurer’s portal or support channels) 30 days after filing.
